Code of Ethics
Objetive
Every member, director and employee of the Canada Peru Chamber of Commerce occupies a position of respect and trust, and represents the organization in their relations with employees, clients, providers, contractors, competitors, government, non-governmental organizations, and the general public.
The Canada Peru Chamber of Commerce requires that each representative (member, director or employee) maintain the highest standard of ethics in their business activity and by doing so uphold the Chamber’s standards conducting honest, proper and loyal operations.
To ensure this commitment, the Canada Peru Chamber of Commerce has implemented a Code of Ethics (“The Code”) establishing behavioral standards. Failure to comply with the Code will generate consequences. The objective is to establish the principles which promote a monitored system which encourages society in general and our members in particular to be role models who contribute in a collective manner to the sustained development of the country.
Principles
- The behavior of our members, employees and directors must reflect the highest standard of ethics, reflecting honesty and integrity before our associates, sponsors, guests, employees, competitors, providers, authority and the community in general. Of particular importance is the need to adopt policies which prohibit and sanction corruption.
- We will implement socially responsible policies, caring for the environment and properly using natural resources, to achieve the development of community integration and contribute to the sustained development of the country.
- We will abide by the Constitution and the laws of the country, commitments, contracts, and authority. We will recognize established legal institutions, including tax institutions and uphold the labor laws.
- The generation of shareholder value and benefits to employees, clients and society in general be developed based on free and competitive markets.
- We will seek to ensure that business objectives of our associates will be carried out with corporate ethics and completed with transparency and equality.
- We will protect the privacy of confidential information as well as any restricted documents which are received as a result of a commercial or institutional relationship with a third party.
- We will promote adequate job compensation, in a safe, healthy and productive environment, and offer opportunities for professional and personal development.
- We will promote the creation of and value a diverse work force offering equal job opportunities. We will avoid all types of discrimination, whether of race, gender, religion, political convictions, age, economic and social condition, handicap or any other which may not be related to valid business motives.
Reach
The code is applicable to all employees (full or part time), directors, committee members selected by the Board of Directors, and members. It is understood that the term “Representative” in the following includes all people above mentioned. Directors and civil servants are held to additional duties and obligations established by law as well as institutional and organizational by-laws.
The Code’s principles must be upheld and put into practice in any situation related to business operations. Representatives must also take into account that even their private lives could jeopardize the reputation of the Chamber and must avoid any behavior which may go against the code, if the activity is being conducted as part of the organization’s operations.
The Code will be made available to all Representatives immediately after its implementation and will be handed out to new personnel as part of their hiring process.
Monitoring
In order to guarantee the compliance of the Code of Ethics, the Canada Peru Chamber of Commerce will implement a Monitoring Committee with the authority to sanction violators. The Committee members will be chosen to include the following:
- A Board member, who will preside over the committee.
- A Civil service representative.
- A University staff member.
- A Canada Peru Chamber of Commerce Past President.
- A representative of the Canadian Embassy in Peru.
