The Canada Peru Chamber of Commerce organized the workshop "Evaluation of the main risks in the mining industry and their application to hazards in: Vehicle Interaction, Rock Mechanics and Ventilation", which was held on April 21 and 23, 2021. The workshop was attended by 31 executives from Osinergmin.

 

The speaker for this important workshop was Mr. Glenn Lyle: Director of Health, Safety and Risk Management of MIRARCO, with the support of the Goodman School of Mines.

 

MIRARCO

MIRARCO is Canada's leading mining research and innovation center. It is the largest applied mining research institution in North America. A not-for-profit institute that works in partnership with Laurentian University, and related institutes such as CROSH and Living with Lakes Centre.

 

Goodman School of Mines

Educational center founded to meet the employment deficit in the mining industry in Canada, with specializations in each key area that defines the mining cycle: mining exploration, project feasibility, mine development, mine closure and monitoring, as well as, the development of 3 key concepts for society, which are affected by mining activity: community and people, environment and economy.

 

Workshop objectives:

  • The importance of hazard identification and risk assessment, and how this fits into a safety risk management program.
  • Different risk assessment tools commonly used and how to select the right tool for a particular situation.
  • How to set up a risk assessment program; what are the key steps and who are the key levels within the organization, which should be involved in the program.
  • Steps to perform a risk assessment, team composition, key points for success.
  • Application of these principles to hazards in vehicle interaction, rock mechanics and ventilation.
  • Conduct a risk assessment for the 3 specific areas: how to set up, how to divide into components, topics to discuss.
