Pamela Florian, Country Manager for Hatch, discusses the importance of the organization’s global network of expertise to address the unique needs of Peru’s mining sector as it ensures world-class quality and sustainability in its projects.

1. What has been Hatch's main focus in Peru over the last two years?

Hatch has seen a significant shift in its service offerings and client needs and is deeply committed to solving society's most complex challenges. Peru has primarily been a mining and metallurgical client, but the organization’s reach has expanded to serve clients in the energy and financial sectors and investors interested in the mining and metallurgical industries. There has also been growth in engineering and infrastructure services. Hatch contributes significantly to various business areas, including developing complex water solutions for mining clients, helping them meet ESG quotas, and ensuring they are environmentally responsible, economically competitive, and socially friendly.

2. What are Hatch's key services related to decarbonization?

Hatch’s key services include developing decarbonization strategies and roadmaps and implementing solutions, including decarbonizing mines and concentrators in Peru, particularly open-pit operations with high carbon content. There is also focus on electrifying mining fleets and simulating conditions to fully achieve green operations.

Hatch has emerged as a benchmark for these services not only in Peru, but globally, with similar projects in Chile and other countries. Hatch develops business cases to ensure an intelligent transition to green operations while considering geography, logistics, and other constraints.

3. What are Hatch's priorities for the following years?

As a top priority, Hatch aims to deliver large-scale projects with excellence, imprinting its quality on everything produced. There is a significant agenda concerning electrification and decarbonization. One of the organization’s main objectives is to continue contributing impactful solutions to meet client needs, especially those requiring expert knowledge to define profitable business cases.

Effective communication and developing solutions that create shared value with communities, stakeholders, and society are crucial. Hatch aims beyond simply delivering solutions; its success lies in co-creating and collaborating, integrating the knowledge gathered from its global endeavors and adapting it to the Peruvian reality.

Hatch recently held a successful roundtable forum on energy transition in Lima with the objective of transferring knowledge from major projects and initiatives outside Peru directly to clients, providing insights into what the world is doing to ensure more efficient, sustainable, and humane operations.

4. How does Hatch effectively harness the global expertise from its various international offices?

Hatch has secured its first government-to-government contract for a significant project within Peru. This involves developing and executing the third phase of the Chavimochic project, led by the Ministry of Agriculture. This initiative will create many jobs and irrigate the entire northern region of Peru. To achieve this and ensure its success, Hatch will leverage Canada's top-tier irrigation expertise.

Hatch leverages knowledge from over 70 offices worldwide, having completed projects in more than 150 countries. The organization is extremely well connected, making knowledge transfer and sharing best practices and expertise with clients much more efficient.
